Harshal Patel created three all-time records in the history of the Indian Premier League for taking 3 wickets in the return match of IPL 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In three cases, he surpassed James Faulkner, Jasprit Bumrah and four other cricketers at the same time.
Firstly, Herschel holds the record for most wickets in an IPL season group league. After this match, Harshal took 29 wickets in the current IPL. He broke Faulkner’s record. In 2013, Faulkner took a total of 26 wickets in the group league.
Second, Herschel is the highest wicket-taker in an IPL season as an Indian. In this case, he left behind Jasprit Bumrah. For Mumbai, Bumrah took 26 wickets in the last IPL. This was the record among Indians for so long.
After all, Herschel holds the record for taking most 3 or more wickets in an IPL season. The star pacer of RCB has taken 3 or more wickets in 6 innings in the current IPL. This record was shared by Sohail Tanveer (2006), Nehra (2015), Khaleel Ahmed (2019) and Jasprit Bumrah (2020).
Herschel has a chance to break Dwayne Bravo’s record of 32 wickets in the IPL season. Bravo made this record in 2013. And with just 3 wickets, he will set another all-time record in the Indian Premier League. In this sense, he has now taken the third place. Apart from Bravo, Rabada has taken 30 wickets in a season of IPL.
